Character
Gentle, patient, social and extremely good with children. Friendly even to strangers — which is why it's not ideal as a guard dog.
Intelligence
Very smart and eager to learn; excels at obedience and working-dog tasks.
Training and Exercise
Training
Responds wonderfully to positive reinforcement; with early socialization and basic obedience it becomes a perfect companion. High mouthing/chewing need — redirect to toys.
Exercise
An energetic breed: at least 1-2 hours of active exercise a day; loves swimming and fetch. Insufficient exercise leads to behavior problems.

- Prone to ear infections (floppy ears) — check regularly
- Watch for hip/elbow dysplasia and some hereditary issues
- Prone to weight gain — portion control
