Temperament and Traits
Character
Loyal, brave, bonded to its family and protective. Can be wary of strangers — which is why early socialization is essential.
Intelligence
One of the smartest breeds; learns fast and needs work and mental challenge.
Training and Exercise
Training
Very responsive to consistent, positive and early training. Mental stimulation (tasks, scent work, advanced obedience) is essential; a bored German Shepherd develops behavior problems. The protective instinct should be guided professionally.
Exercise
High energy and stamina: 1.5-2 hours of physical + mental activity a day. Walks alone aren't enough; play, training and work are needed.
Care and Health
- Double coat, heavy shedder — brush several times a week
- Prone to hip/elbow dysplasia — responsible breeder + vet care
- Bloat (gastric torsion) risk — mind the feeding routine
- Restlessness/destruction without mental stimulation
- Early socialization is critical for character
